Love ASL

by Cathe
(OR)

I am hearing and accidentally discovered ASL in college in Alaska. I loved it. I married a man whose cousin was Deaf and had taught him SEE sign. And I have taught all of my children ASL from birth. (I have 7 children) It has been my experience that the professional world is the group that needs retraining. I have taught baby ASL to hearing parents of hearing children, and without exception these parents intuitively recognize the tremendous benefits of having access to language before they can speak. Some times too much training can get in the way of learning.
