Deaf Tutor

by Irene Tunanidas
(Poland, Ohio USA)

Thanks for sharing your family experience and perspective on audism and significance of using ASL in the early stages of growth to help young deaf children develop expressive language skills. While deaf advocates are pushing for ASL, they will need to understand that acceptance in the Deaf Community is another major issue. Oralists wanting to learn ASL may not find happiness in the Deaf Community IF Deaf school graduates do not have the ability to understand their need for acceptance. This issue should be addressed in DBC's future conference.
